MAY 12, 2020 — From Tasty, BuzzFeed’s leading global food brand, comes Tasty Pride: 75 Recipes and Stories from the Queer Food Community, a technicolor celebration of queerness that highlights incredible accomplishments, with submissions from iconic and inspiring chefs, food lovers, and activists including Antoni Porowski, Julia Turshen, Nik Sharma, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ted Allen, Deborah VanTrece and many more. Within, stories of love, pride, and acceptance – and the important role food can play in that journey – accompany innovative, meaningful, accessible recipes.
As a gay man studying in culinary school and then working in restaurants, Jesse Szewczyk experienced firsthand the way queer people can be overlooked or underestimated in the world of cooking. After leaving professional kitchens, he joined Tasty as a recipe developer and food editor. In this new role, he wanted to find a way to elevate voices too often unheard, and to convey to young queer cooks that there is a bright and hopeful path forward, that their stories are needed, and that a community is waiting to welcome them with open arms. By partnering with the beloved, fiercely inclusive Tasty, to create this cookbook, he is fulfilling that mission and paving the way for future contributions.
Tasty Pride is not only a cookbook; it is also an investment in the queer community. In conjunction with Tasty Pride’s publication, BuzzFeed Tasty and the Random House Publishing Group have committed to donating $50,000 to GLAAD, a nonprofit that has been at the forefront of cultural change, accelerating acceptance of the queer community for over 30 years. Tasty Pride is a delicious way to celebrate Pride Month (and beyond).
Tasty Pride is the latest cookbook from BuzzFeed’s Tasty, the world’s largest social food network. It follows a series of successful cookbooks including Tasty Every Day, Tasty Dessert, Tasty Ultimate, and Tasty: Latest and Greatest.
