  1. It’s actually an urban legend. There’s no physiological difference in donkeys and mules that would cause one to sink and the other not to. Some believe that donkeys would panic upon getting stuck in quicksand and aren’t as quick or have as good of traction as mules do. However, there’s no scientific evidence to support this claim.
