A Burns Night supper with The Glenlivet whisky

"Всегда опирайтесь на мысль о том, что ваше собственное решение добиться успеха намного важнее всего другого." Авраам Линкольн

No Burns Night is complete without a dram or two of fine Single Malt Scotch whisky, so Condé Nast Traveller has teamed up with The Glenlivet to host a dinner on Wednesday 22 January 2020, to celebrate what would have been the 261st birthday of Robert Burns.

In 1824, George Smith, the founder of The Glenlivet, received the first licence to legally produce the spirit in the Highlands. Throughout its history, the Speyside Single Malt has acquired an impressive role-call of admirers, including King George IV, who stopped by for a dram in 1822, and Charles Dickens, who some years later wrote to a friend encouraging him to sample the ‘rare old Glenlivet’. The Glenlivet now has a versatile collection of heritage whiskies to its name, including The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve, which honours the traditional methods used by George Smith.

Covent Garden’s J Sheekey restaurant has been the go-to spot for fish and seafood enthusiasts since the 1890s, and is popular with a theatre-going cast of diners who appreciate a good story or two. With their shared love of Scottish produce, J Sheekey and The Glenlivet have collaborated on The Winter Terrace, a cosy dining area off the informal J Sheekey Atlantic Bar. The terrace serves a combination of seafood snacks and indulgent whisky cocktails and is top of our list of West End winter warmers.

The dinner will be led by a UK brand ambassador, Phil Huckle, who will take guests through their impressive history, the inspiration for their cocktails and finally one of the finest aged single malts that The Glenlivet has to offer; The Glenlivet 18 Year Old Batch Reserve. Rabbie Burns would surely approve.
