Security law: Newly elected student union leaders say Chinese University Hong Kong trampled on popular opinion by cutting ties

Newly elected student union leaders have accused the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) of trampling on popular opinion after its management severed ties with the union due to allegedly false statements and possible breaches of the national security law. Issac Lam Yui-hei, president of the student union cabinet known as “Syzygia,” said early on Friday that the university’s decision was unprecedented. “The decision to arbitrarily strip us of office not only stripped the 12 Syzygia members of their responsibility, but also rejected a popular mandate supported by 4,000 students,”…

Ratziel San Juan (Philstar.com) – February 26, 2021 – 12:10pm MANILA, Philippines — A broken family did not mean a broken home under the watch of artist Isko Andrade’s mother. He set expectations high and now they have to manage…

Analysis: Hedge funds worry about market fallout from Tesla, ARK and spiking yields

By Maiya Keidan (Reuters) – Some hedge fund managers are getting concerned about the money that has flooded into high-flying stocks like Tesla and the popular ARK fund as bond yields spike and growth stocks take a hit. The popularity of stocks like Tesla helped Cathie Wood’s $26.6 billion ARK Innovation ETF become the top-performing actively managed U.S. equity fund tracked by Morningstar last year. But even as shares of Tesla plunged this week and Wood’s fund fell, she increased the fund’s bet on the automaker. The ARK Innovation ETF…

U.S. conducts air strikes against Iranian-backed militia facilities in Syria: Pentagon

By Idrees Ali and Phil Stewart WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Joe Biden on Thursday directed U.S. military air strikes in eastern Syria against facilities belonging to what the Pentagon said were Iran-backed militia, in a calibrated response to rocket attacks against U.S. targets in Iraq. The strikes, which were first reported by Reuters, appeared to be limited in scope, potentially lowering the risk of escalation. Biden’s decision to strike only in Syria and not in Iraq, at least for now, also gives the Iraqi government some breathing room as it…

Facebook switches news back on in Australia, signs content deals

By Renju Jose and Jonathan Barrett SYDNEY (Reuters) – Facebook Inc ended a one-week blackout of Australian news on its popular social media site on Friday and announced preliminary commercial agreements with three small local publishers. The new law makes Australia the first nation where a government arbitrator can set the…
